Retired Permanent Deacon James E. Dalton died on November 15, 2023, he was 81 years old.
Deacon Dalton was a graduate of West Catholic High School for Boys, a graduate of LaSalle College, and earned his Master’s degree from St. Joseph’s University. He worked as a teacher of English & Latin for 52 years in Pennsylvania; New Jersey; and Australia.
Deacon Dalton was ordained by Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua on June 7, 1998, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. He was assigned to Saint Cyril Parish, East Lansdowne, until December 2009. He was reassigned to Saint Anastasia, Newtown Square until his retirement in February 2017. In retirement, he continued to assist at Saint Anastasia Parish, Newtown Square.
Deacon Dalton was born on October 9, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was the son of the late Edward and Ellen (nee Condon) Dalton. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maryanne (née Kunik) Dalton. He is also survived by four daughters: Anne Marie; Jennifer; Elizabeth; and Coleen; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Saints Simon and Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester. The principal celebrant will be Reverend Kenneth I. Omeke. The concelebrant will be Reverend Michael J. Gerlach. Deacon of the Mass and homilist will be Deacon James T. Owens. Interment will be at Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
