Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, Archbishop of Philadelphia, will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving to recognize religious educators Jan. 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.
The Mass will recognize the service of 150 volunteer catechists along with several directors, coordinators, and administrators of Parish Religious Education Programs (PREP) who work in parishes throughout the five-county region.
Archbishop Pérez will present Most Reverend Michael J. Fitzgerald, Retired Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia, with the Saint Paul VI Award, in recognition of his leadership and many contributions to evangelization and catechesis over the course of several decades. In addition to the Saint Paul VI Award, the Archbishop will present awards to PREP directors and coordinators as well as parish catechists who have served in those roles for 10 to 30 years and from five to 40 years respectively.
The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul is located at 18th and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia.
