Sister Gertrude Melus, SSJ (formerly Sister Stephen Catherine), age 85, died March 29, 2024, at Saint Joseph Villa.

The daughter of the late Stephen and Catherine (nee Ratzer) Melus, she attended St. Rose Grade School and St. Rose High School in Belmar, NJ.

In September 1956 she entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Chestnut Hill, and professed her final vows in 1964.

Sister Gertrude ministered in the Dioceses of Allentown and Philadelphia.

Sister of the late Philip Melus, Stephen Melus, and Virginia Daleo, she is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and their extended families, as well as members of her community, the Sisters of Saint Joseph.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 3rd, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph Villa, 110 W. Wissahickon Ave., Flourtown. Services will be livestreamed at www.stjosephvilla.org.
