Patricia Rooney has been named an Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia by Archbishop Nelson Pérez, according to a July 16 announcement from the archdiocesan Office for Catholic Education.

Her appointment will become effective Monday, July 22, 2024.

Rooney possesses 29 years of experience in education, including 13 years in various leadership capacities. Since September 2021, she has served as Principal of Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School in Drexel Hill. There, she led initiatives to foster data-driven professional development, secured significant grant funding, and established key partnerships to enhance educational opportunities for students.

She previously served as Principal of the former Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote, which closed at the end of the 2020-2021 academic year. She’s also held various administrative roles at Camelot Education in New Jersey.

Earlier in her career, Rooney served as a teacher at various Philadelphia area schools including MaST Charter School, where she taught Math and at Maternity Blessed Virgin Mary Parish School in Philadelphia, where she taught Language Arts.

Rooney holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Saint Joseph’s University and a Master of Education Degree in Special Education from Holy Family University along with a Pennsylvania Principal Certification.

She will continue to support the Bonner-Prendie school community until an Interim Principal is appointed for the school.
