The Catholic Charities Appeal (CCA) has agreed to become the official sponsor of the live streaming broadcast of the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass from the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia.

This Mass, often celebrated by Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez, reaches tens of thousands of viewers locally and globally through platforms such as Archbishop Pérez’s Facebook page and the archdiocesan Vimeo channel.

This sponsorship will help the Archdiocese of Philadelphia continue its outreach to those unable to attend Mass in person due to illness, health risks, or caregiving responsibilities.

“I am deeply grateful to the Catholic Charities Appeal for their generosity,” said Archbishop Pérez. “Thanks to this great gift, we are able to significantly improve the spiritual lives of our sisters and brothers who are not able to gather at the Lord’s table in person.”

The archdiocese began live streaming the Sunday Mass in March 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the initiative “Nothing Compares to Being There” was launched to encourage parishioners to return to in-person Mass. While this remains a key message, the livestream continues to serve as an essential service for those unable to attend.

Ernest Russom, CCA board president, highlighted donor support for the Appeal, which enables the Church of Philadelphia to provide food, clothing, education, and spiritual services to those in need throughout the region.

He added that CCA’s sponsorship of the Sunday Mass livestream furthers this mission by ensuring spiritual care is just as accessible as material support.

“It is an honor to support the archdiocese (in this way) as it provides spiritual nutrition to our region,” he said.

The Catholic Charities Appeal is the local Church’s most important annual fundraising effort, supporting numerous organizations and ministries within five key areas: social services, evangelization, special education, mission parishes, and retired and infirm priests.
