St. Charles Borromeo Seminary’s School of Theological Studies (STS) has launched a new Master of Arts in Catholic Health Care Ministry in collaboration with the National Catholic Bioethics Center (NCBC).
The fully online, 36 credit program is designed to prepare health care professionals and chaplains with formation in Catholic theology, bioethics, and pastoral practice. Through a memorandum of understanding with the NCBC, the curriculum integrates academic study with practical application, emphasizing the ability to address complex medical and ethical issues encountered in education, clinical practice, and research.
The degree also meets graduate education requirements for board certification as a Catholic chaplain through the National Association of Catholic Chaplains.
STS Dean Dr. Carmina Chapp called the program a “unique offering” aimed at helping professionals “bring Christ into modern-day health care practice.”
NCBC Director of Education Dr. Joe Zalot said the partnership responds to a growing need for formation grounded in authentic Catholic teaching amid an evolving health care and bioethics landscape.
Students will complete 27 credits through STS and nine through the NCBC, with coursework focusing on human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral formation. The first cohort begins in September 2026, with applications due Aug. 1.
