Sister Leona Marie Cain, O.S.F.
Sister Leona Marie Cain, O.S.F., died June 22, 2009, at Assisi House. She was 79. She was a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 59 years. She professed her first vows in 1950. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Washington, D.C., and later went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from Mount St. Mary University in Maryland. She worked in elementary education throughout the Diocese of Wilmington and the Archdiocese of Baltimore for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, needlecraft, puzzles, music and art. In 1996, she moved to Assisi House in Aston and served in prayer ministry. In 2002, she moved to Queen of Peace Convent, one of the congregation’s independent living units, and volunteered at the Assisi house. A funeral Mass was celebrated June 26. Interment followed in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. She is survived by her brothers, Russell and Dennis, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and her Franciscan family.
