The 93rd annual celebration of the Feast of the Assumption will be celebrated in West Chester on Sunday, Aug. 12, preceding the Aug. 15 feast day.

The celebration begins with Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, 231 West Gay St. in West Chester, followed by a Communion breakfast at the Elk’s Lodge, Wayne and Washington Streets. A solemn procession begins at 2:30 p.m. in front of St. Agnes and ends with benediction in the church.

This year’s queen of the procession is Samantha Adeline Mobile, who has participated since her childhood.

The Feast of the Assumption Committee invites Chester County residents to the celebration, which aims to “bring families together for a day of prayer and reunion,” according to a statement by the group. Although begun as an Italian custom in 1918, “the feast is for all Christians who would like to join together in fellowship,” the statement said.
