Young people who might never have seen a lovely old Catholic church filled for a vibrant Sunday Mass will have another chance to join the “Mass mob” at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on Sunday, June 29 at 11:15 a.m.
Sacred Heart is located at 3rd and Reed Streets in the Pennsport section of South Philadelphia.
The evangelization initiative was derived from the concept of flash mobs and modeled after a successful grassroots program developed in the Diocese of Buffalo. A “Mass Mob” invites Catholics to come together in large numbers to attend Mass at a designated parish church.
“Mass Mob Philly’s” inaugural Mass in March drew more than 400 faithful to St. Francis Xavier Church in Fairmount.
Like a flash mob, Mass mobs are organized almost entirely through social media. Future venues for Mass mobs will be put up for vote on social media see the Facebook page here. All Mass mobs are planned collaboratively with parish staff and take place with approval from pastors.
