Sister Mary Frances Gavin, I.H.M., died Feb. 15 in Camilla Hall, Immaculata, in the 75th year of her religious life. She was 94.
Born in Scotland, Sister Mary Frances entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1939 from Transfiguration Parish in Philadelphia and professed her vows in 1942.
She taught in elementary and secondary schools in the Archdioceses of Philadelphia and Atlanta, and the Dioceses of Metuchen and Harrisburg. She also served six years in Peru. She was assigned to Camilla Hall in 2007.
The funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 19 at Camilla Hall. Father William E. Dean was the celebrant and homilist and Msgr. Joseph Logrip was the concelebrant.
Sister Mary Frances is survived by members of her religious community, her sister, Mary Quinn, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Elizabeth Alice Moss Gavin and her siblings Thomas (a.k.a. Brother Francis Gavin, F.S.C.), Ralph Gavin Jr., Agnes Smith, Sister Francis Regina and Marguerite Gavin.
