Sister Mary Deborah Abel, I.H.M., died March 25 in Camilla Hall, Immaculata, in the 51st year of her religious life. She was 69 years old.
Born in San Diego, Calif., Sister Mary Deborah entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1963 from St. Clement Parish, Philadelphia, and professed her vows in 1966.
She taught in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Diocese of Camden. After receiving her degree in art, she taught art in various schools of the archdiocese.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall on Monday, March 30. Father William E. Dean was the celebrant and homilist.
Sister Mary Deborah is survived by members of her community at St. Gabriel Convent and all members of her I.H.M. community, by her sisters, Susanne Dameron, Deborah Nasko (Stephen) and a brother, Robert (Debra) and many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Dougherty Abel, and a brother, Joseph Abel.
