Parish cantors or anyone interested in church music is invited to “Ever Ancient – Ever New: Introducing Chant into our Parish Repertoire” Saturday, Feb. 6 from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Empress Room at St. Helena Church, 1489 DeKalb Pike in Blue Bell, Montgomery County.
Charles Thatcher and Zach Hemenway will present musical resources and practical tools for adult scholas, children’s choirs and parish congregations interested in chant, the ancient form of liturgical song. Thatcher’s presentation will include Latin, English and Spanish. He encourages all attendees to bring a copy of the hymnal you use within the parish at which you minister. Hemenway’s presentation will show how to teach chant to children’s choirs and share more of the church’s rich musical heritage with confidence.
The workshop is sponsored by the Association of Church Musicians in Philadelphia — learn more here. It will be a hands-on workshop using the music aids participants currently use.
