St. Joseph Parish in Collingdale will mark the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary with an annual “blessing of the waters” in Cape May, N.J. on Aug. 15.
Attendees will depart by bus from St. Joseph’s at 8:30 a.m. and return at approximately 6 p.m.
After the blessing, participants are free to spend the day on the beach or to enjoy the shops and restaurants of Cape May, where they are also invited to visit Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Beachgoers may bring their chairs and umbrellas. Transportation will be provided for those who wish to return to the town after the blessing. All participants will be picked up at 3:30 p.m. for the return trip. The cost is $45 per person, payable to St. Joseph Parish, 500 Woodlawn Avenue, Collingdale, Pa. 19023.
The blessing of the waters, an ancient Marian devotion celebrated throughout the world, invokes the Blessed Mother’s protection over the seas and those whose livelihood depends on them.
