Sister Jane Pellowski, M.M.S., died June 11 at St. John Neumann Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare in Philadelphia. She was 84.
Born in Arcadia, Wisconsin, Sister Jane entered the Medical Mission Sisters in 1953 and made her first vows in 1956. After earning her BSN degree, she worked at Holy Family Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, the first racially integrated hospital in the city.
Shortly after earning a master’s degree in counseling in 1973, Sister Jane returned to Philadelphia and continued her healing presence in leadership as a spiritual director, in liturgy, and co-directing “Earthings,” a project dedicated to education and events around ecology and the environment.
A gifted singer, Sister Jane is remembered for her creativity, insight and genuine kindness to all she met.
The funeral Mass was celebrated June 17 in the chapel at Medical Mission Sisters, 8400 Pine Road, Philadelphia.
