The Miraculous Medal Shrine’s Catholic Business Network will host a presentation by Julie Burkey, D.Min. on “Spirituality in the Workplace,” Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m.
Burkey, an adjunct professor of pastoral theology at Seton Hall University, teaches courses on the theology of work, Catholic evangelization and catechesis. From 2008 to 2015, she created several programs focusing on a spirituality of work for parishes, academia and the secular workplace. Burkey also created and facilitated the lay student leadership retreat series, “Making our Work God’s Work: Spiritual Formation for Lay Leadership in Pastoral Ministry,” and served as advisor to the lay student prayer and reflection group, Clay Lamps of Emmaus.
She holds a master’s degree from Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology, having earned the prestigious Pope John Paul II Medal of Academic Excellence upon graduation, and a Doctor of Ministry from The Catholic University of America. She has worked with the Institute for Christian Spirituality since its inception, initially creating the core program, “Finding the Work You Love,” followed by several other programs on a variety of topics, including careers in church ministry.
Dr. Burkey currently serves on the Board of the American Academy of Management’s Management, Spirituality, and Religion Division.
The presentation is free, but offerings will be gratefully accepted. Refreshments, including beer, wine and soft drinks, will follow. Secure complimentary parking is available in the shrine’s lot. Registration is required.
