The Miraculous Medal Shrine and the Mayo Association of Philadelphia will host a livestreamed celebration of the feast of Our Lady of Knock, which marks the 1879 Marian apparition in Knock, County Mayo, Ireland.
The virtual event, scheduled for Aug. 16 at 1 p.m. (EDT), will include a broadcast from County Mayo, Ireland, the site of the apparition of Our Lady of Knock, in which Fr. Richard Gibbon, the rector of the Knock Shrine, will offer a greeting and prayer. The celebration will include Mass followed by performances by Theresa Flanagan Murtagh, bagpipers and the Rince Ri Irish Step Dancing School, as well as virtual performances from singer Andy Cooney and County Mayo tenor Cathal Gavin.
This event will celebrate the Our Lady of Knock Shrine project, a collaboration between the Central Association of the Miraculous Medal, the Mayo Association of Philadelphia and the area’s Irish-American community. The Knock Shrine will be adorned with the culture and customs of Ireland, including statuary depicting the apparition of the Blessed Mother, St. John the Evangelist, St. Joseph and the Lamb of God. The shrine will be located in an outdoor space and surrounded by a rosary walk and meditation garden.
