Holy Myrrhbearers Ukrainian Catholic Church, Swarthmore, hosts the program “Byzantine Marriage: An Eastern Christian Sacrament for the Life of the World” on Oct. 30.
Carl Krauthaser Jr. will offer a presentation on the spirituality of marriage as found in the marriage ceremony of the Byzantine Church. He will discuss what it means to be “Bridegroom and Bride” especially in relation to the domestic church. He will also examine the destructive forces that undermine marriage and family in today’s secular society.
The program is as follows:
9 a.m. — Registration
10 a.m. – Discussion: Marriage in the Byzantine tradition
11:30 a.m. — Lunch
1 p.m. – Discussion: Examination of the difficulties facing marriage and family in today’s secular world
2:30 p.m. — Akathist to the Mother of God

Krauthaser was born and raised Roman Catholic. He and his family officially changed ritual churches to the Ukrainian Catholic Church in 1995. He has a deep love for the domestic and universal church. He earned a master’s degree in theology from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary.
A member of Holy Myrrhbearers, Krauthaser has served in various parishes as cantor and acolyte. He and his wife Denise are residents of Wilmington, Delaware.
