Saint Lucy School for Children with Visual Impairments in Northeast Philadelphia celebrated the feast of its patron saint, Saint Lucy, with a special Mass Dec. 13.
Founded in 1955, Saint Lucy School is one of three schools of special education in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Father Michael Reilly, the Pastor of Saint Jerome Parish, celebrated Mass. Students participated as readers and provided music during the liturgy.
During the summer of 2022, Saint Lucy School moved from Holy Innocents Parish School to its new site at Saint Jerome.
Following Mass, Saint Lucy School performed its Christmas Concert for family and loved ones under the direction of Ms. Maria Ceferatti. Students performed musical selections including Santa Lucia, The Prayer, and Jingle Bells in Arabic.
During his homily, Father Reilly encouraged the students to follow the example of Saint Lucy.
“I think she can challenge us today to be like her. She put all her faith in God even when things weren’t going well,” he said.
