Sister Ignatia Maria Smith, SSJ, (formerly Isabel Josephine Smith), age 100, died April 28, 2023, at Saint Joseph Villa.
The daughter of the late John and Annie (Hugnagle) Smith, she attended St. Mary Grade School and Central Catholic High School in McSherrystown, Pa.
In September 1940 she entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Chestnut Hill, and professed her final vows in 1948.
Sister Ignatia ministered in the Dioceses of Harrisburg and Philadelphia.
Sister of Henrietta Seymore and the late Monica George, Elizabeth Lawrence, Raul Smith and Lionel J. Smith, she is also survived by niece and nephew-in-law, Don and June Auman, many loving nieces and nephews, as well as members of her Congregation, the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
A private Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph Villa. Services will also be live streamed from the Saint Joseph Villa website, www.stjosephvilla.org.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sister’s name to Saint Joseph Villa, 110 W. Wissahickon Ave., Flourtown, PA 19031.
