Roman Catholic High School’s mock trial team captured the city championship with a win over Central High School Sunday, March 9 at the Beasley School of Law at Temple University in Philadelphia.
Mock Trial is a competition in which students simulate a real trial. The trial concerns an official Pennsylvania Bar case that remains the same through the entire academic year.

The Cahillites successfully defended Connie MacLeod, portrayed by team captain Oliver Sheaffer. MacLeod faced accusations of stealing a valuable pendant found in his dorm room. The team’s strategic arguments and compelling evidence led to a decisive victory, marking Roman’s 11th city title in the past 12 years and 12th overall.
Roman’s team is coached by Steven Patton, Esq., a 2008 alumnus of the school and an attorney at the Law Firm of McMonagle Perri; and John Pensabene, a long-time member of the school’s English Department.
“We are incredibly proud of our team’s hard work and commitment,” said Pensabene.
“Each member played a crucial role in this win, and their passion for mock trial truly shone through in the courtroom. This victory reflects not only their skills but also their teamwork and perseverance.”
The team will represent Roman Catholic at the State Mock Trial Championship in Harrisburg March 28-29.
“This championship is just the beginning,” said Sheaffer. “We are ready to take on the state competition and demonstrate the hard work we’ve put in all year.”
