St. Anne Senior Community Center’s urban farming partnership has earned a top award from the National Institute of Senior Centers.
The Port Richmond (Philadelphia) facility, which is operated by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s Catholic Health Care Services, was recognized for leadership, civic engagement and community development for its partnership with Greensgrow Farms.
A leader in urban farming, Greensgrow is located across Almond Street from St. Anne’s, where seniors volunteer with pruning, transplanting and learning about horticulture. There are also opportunities for creativity in the garden such as sketching.
