Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez has named Thomas J. Geisler Jr. as Chief Financial Officer of the archdiocesan Office of Catholic Education effective July 6.
He will succeed David J. Magee in the role when Magee retires July 31. Over a career of more than four decades with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia he served in instrumental roles in several offices including the Internal Audit Department, Office for Financial Services, Office for Parish Financial Services, and most recently the Office for Educational Financial Services.
Geisler brings 17 years of experience in educational finance to his new position. Most recently he was the Assistant Chief Financial Officer for OCE and previously a senior accountant in the office.
Prior to that time he served as an accountant at Archbishop Ryan High School in Northeast Philadelphia and at SS. John Neumann and Maria Goretti Catholic High School in South Philadelphia.
Geisler earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration degree from Holy Family University. He also holds certifications in Labor Relations and Business Contract Law from Cornell University.
In addition, he has completed the Office of Catholic Education’s Rising Stars Leadership Academy and UDEMY’S Chief Financial Officer Leadership Program.
In a letter dated July 6, Jay DeFruscio, Chief Operating Officer of Secondary Schools of the archdiocese, expressed his prayerful congratulations to Geisler “as he prepares to embrace his new role of service,” and deep gratitude to Magee for his “tireless dedication to the Catholic Church of Philadelphia and to the mission of Catholic education.”
