Sister Eileen Kean, S.S.J. (formerly Sister Thomas Dorothy), died July 6 at St. Joseph Villa, Flourtown. She was 89 and in the 70th year of her religious life.
The daughter of the late Thomas and Helen Kean, she attended Sacred Heart Grade School in Manoa and Notre Dame High School in Moylan, Delaware County. In September 1949 she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Chestnut Hill, and professed her final vows in 1957.
Sister Eileen ministered in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the dioceses of Allentown, Harrisburg and Trenton.
The funeral Mass was celebrated July 9 at St. Joseph Villa.
Sister Eileen is survived by her sisters, Sister Rose Marie Kean, S.S.J. and Sister Kathleen Kean, S.S.J., and brothers Thomas, James and the late Patrick Kean. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and members of her congregation, the Sisters of St. Joseph.
