The annual John Cardinal Foley Symposium on the theme of media and artificial intelligence literacy will take place at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary on Monday, May 20 at 7 p.m.

Leading the discussion on Pope Leo XIV’s message for the World Day of Communications, “Preserving Human Voices and Faces,” will be two leading researchers on the theme.

Mariele Courtois of Benedictine College will offer a keynote lecture with a response by Catherine Moon of Villanova University.

Both are members of the A.I. Research Group for the Center for Digital Culture at the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See, and contributors to the publication “Encountering Artificial Intelligence: Ethical and Anthropological Investigations.”

Preceding the symposium, veteran news anchor, reporter, and speaker Tracy Davidson will receive the 2026 Cardinal Foley Award for her many years of excellence in communications in the Philadelphia region.

The symposium, which is free and open to the public, honors the legacy of Cardinal John Foley and his instrumental work in advancing communications in the Catholic Church. He was president of what was then the Pontifical Council for Social Communications from 1984 to 2007, and a former editor of The Catholic Standard and Times.
