Sister Elizabeth Frances Scully, O.S.F., dies at 97

A sister of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 76 years, formerly known as Sister Anthony Brendan, she was born in Vermont, raised in Ireland, and served as a religious sister in Philadelphia, several West Coast dioceses, and in Africa.

Sister Maureen McDermott, Catholic school leader, dies at 65

The I.H.M. sister had resigned her position as superintendent of secondary schools and chief academic officer for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on Nov. 5. Her death less than two weeks later shocked colleagues in the archdiocese.

Sister Marita Donald Toland, I.H.M., dies at 87

A native of Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in West Philadelphia, the former Mary Patricia Toland became an I.H.M. sister and served in the congregation for 70 years.

A longtime teacher, she expanded her ministry as consultant to religious communities and schools. For years she aided the archdiocesan synod in Philadelphia and spent many years working as a trusted group facilitator across the archdiocese.

Sister Maria Antonieta Garcia-Nicoletti, I.H.M., dies at 82

The native of Lima, Peru spent most of 62 years as a Sister, Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in South America, with a brief assignment to St. David School, Willow Grove.

Franciscan Sister Mary Carmel Molloy, congregational leader, dies at 81

The native of Galway, Ireland -- who returned there as a sister for several years to tutor students -- had a wide-ranging ministry across the U.S. including service as a member of the sisters' congregational council in Aston.

After 64 years in classroom, Sister Claire Hutchinson dies

Formerly Sister Agnes Cecilia, the I.H.M. sister died Nov. 2 at age 88. Most of her ministry was spent teaching children, including 22 years at St. Matthew School in Philadelphia.

Sister Grace Martina Moore dies at 91

The Sister of St. Joseph, Chestnut Hill took the religious name Sister Mary Moore when she entered the congregation in 1947. She ministered in archdioceses of Baltimore and Philadelphia, and the dioceses of Camden and Raleigh.

St. Joseph Sister Patricia Ann Cullen, 92, passes

The former Sister Joseph Raphael ministered since 1946 in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the dioceses of Allentown and Harrisburg.
