Sixth grade students of SS. Simon and Jude School, West Chester, helped their fellow parishioners and school families collect and distribute gifts last month to 299 children in Pennsylvania in time for Christmas.
The December gift drive was the result of the 13th annual “Angel Tree Program” of Delaware Valley Children’s Charity, an organization begun 28 years ago by SS. Simon and Jude parishioners Rob and Janie Wermuth. Twelve years ago, as part of a sixth grade service project, student Jude Moribondo introduced the charity to the school.
Participating sponsor families give each child of a recipient family a bag containing special needs and/or wishes, including play kitchens, scooters, bikes, gift cards, coats, mittens, hats and other items needed by the family.
“The coming together of kids helping kids is always very moving. The amazing history, growth and giving from SS. Simon and Jude is second to none. We are so proud of our parish and school,” said Janie Wermuth.
